The TL;DR:
I (Kristin) got to talk to Sen-Foong Lim on the Ludology Podcast and the episode is out now!
If you’re feeling charitable, share this audiogram with your friends to tell them about Out of the Dungeon.
Check out the Pittsburgh-based game designers mentioned in the podcast episode: Tyler Crumrine of Possible Worlds Games and Jess Levine of Jumpgate Games!

Ludology #345: Out of the Dungeon
If you haven’t heard of the Ludology podcast, it’s a long-running show (since 2011! - that’s crazy impressive in the podcast world) about the study and the “why” of games that has seen a number of host changes throughout the years, but is currently led by game designers Sen-Foong Lim and Erica Bouyouris.
In July, I got to talk to Sen about the history of tabletop role-playing games and what I’ve been finding in my documentary research. Here are a few of the topics we cover in this episode:
What I believe is the actual first TTRPG (it’s not D&D!)
Defining “indie games” in two different ways
How TTRPGs are the new 70s anti-war songs
The role of community in creating and shaping the games we love
Hopefulness in imagining the worlds we want to inhabit
Listen below or anywhere you get your podcasts! And please let me know your thoughts! Feel free to respond to this email - I’d love to chat; I’m a yapper.
