The TL;DR
Out of the Dungeon is still in production!

Hi all,
I’m gearing up for a cross-country road trip to Gary Con at the end of this month and realized (with shame) that it has been over a year since I last updated you on the state of this podcast.
The big question up front: yes, the podcast is still happening. The podcast industry is a mess (like a lot of media right now) and studios aren’t in a hurry to fund limited series narrative documentaries. I’ve considered other ways to fund this (Kickstarter, Patreon, finding a rich husband - don’t tell my current husband), and those are still on the table, but while I continue researching and reporting the podcast, I’m doubling down on spreading the word.
To start, there’s now an official Out of the Dungeon Instagram account you can follow for more frequent and more casual updates:

If you’re not on Instagram, I’ll continue to post updates here and you can also follow me on Bluesky.
Finding funding is closely tied to how much a show can prove an audience exists. If you’re still in and excited, I’d be so grateful if you’d share this newsletter and the Instagram with your friends. The goal of the podcast is to not only offer an inside look into the industry to those who are all-in, but to show our friends and family what this hobby and community is about, in hopes that they’ll love it too.
And if that moving speech didn’t work, here is a photo of me dressed up as my Cyberpunk character Carol as bribery. She’s a 60-year-old tech with a lighter for a thumb and was loosely based on Large Marge from Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.
Oh no, I hope you don’t share this… I hope you don’t share it with everyone you know…

What else?
Our small team of two is heading back to Gary Con, mostly to play games this time but also to talk to Kelsey Dionne, creator of Shadowdark. Her new campaign setting for the system is out on Kickstarter now!
In the past year, I interviewed Katherine Cross, cultural critic and author of a very timely book, Log Off: Why Posting and Politics (Almost) Never Mix. You have to read this book.
I’m also diving into Jon Peterson’s The Elusive Shift and Aaron Trammell’s The Privilege of Play this spring.
If you’re going to Gary Con, please say hi! I’d love to talk to you about your ttrpg experience and about what you’d like to see from an oral history podcast. Feel free to message me here or over on Instagram with any thoughts or stories.
More soon,
Kristin
